Seen when it matters: EL for safety and signage

Why a soft, even glow can beat a bright point of light in fog, smoke and darkness.

A sign reading “Vision made brighter” in glowing EL wire

In an emergency, being seen matters more than being bright. A single bright point of light can turn into a glare halo in smoke or fog. A uniformly glowing surface keeps its shape, so an arrow still reads as an arrow, and a sign still reads as a sign.

Drag the slider to thicken the fog and compare the two. (This is an illustrative simulation.)

Low power, long backup

EL panels draw very little current. That is why EL exit signs and safety markers have been used for years. They can run for long periods from small batteries when the main power fails.

Signs people remember

The same qualities make EL a great medium for brands: logos, wayfinding and retail displays that glow evenly, day and night. With the STYELIGHTS™ Smart Series, signs can animate and respond to sensors. Light that speaks.
